About this bird:
The Eastern Yellow Robin is a bright little bird that brings a splash of sunshine to the forests and woodlands of eastern and southeastern Australia. Measuring about 15-17cm, this medium-sized robin's early morning song, often heard at dawn, is a key part of the Australian forest soundscape. With a unique hunting style, this clever bird doesn't flit about like some other robins, preferring the 'sit-and-wait' technique. They perch patiently just above the ground, watching intently, before swooping down and pouncing on their prey of insects, spiders and small invertebrates. Unlike some of its shyer feathered friends, the Yellow Robin is inquisitive and confident around humans, often taking handouts of food from picnickers – sometimes even following people through the forest, no doubt hoping to snatch up bugs disturbed by their footsteps.. During breeding season, the female builds a carefully woven nest, using bark, spider webs and soft plant fibers, often positioning it low in shrubs or forked branches for camouflage and protection. The female then incubates the eggs and both parents care for the young. Conservation Status: Least Concern.
