Tiny. Sparkly. Absolutely essential.
Let’s hear it for the little guys.
While bees often steal the spotlight for making honey, Australia’s Blue-banded Bee is quietly getting on with the important business of keeping our native plants thriving — all while looking like it’s wearing tiny sapphire-striped pyjamas.
Meet Bandit.
Inspired by one of Australia’s most beautiful native pollinators, this original artwork celebrates the shimmering opalescent blue stripes, buzzing energy and remarkable character of the Blue-banded Bee. Created using my signature combination of ink and watercolour, this piece captures movement, personality and visual fun, bringing one of nature’s tiniest superheroes to life.
What makes this little bee even more extraordinary is its incredible buzz pollination technique. Instead of simply collecting pollen, Blue-banded Bees vibrate their flight muscles at just the right frequency to shake pollen loose from flowers — a fascinating behaviour that helps many Australian native plants (and even tomatoes!) reproduce successfully.
Nature really is clever.
This artwork is a celebration of the small wonders we often overlook. It’s a reminder to slow down, look a little closer and appreciate the tiny creatures doing enormous jobs behind the scenes.

What is a Giclée?
Giclée is a printing process using high-quality digital files, archival-grade pigments and acid free media resulting in a fade-free image which achieves a seemingly “dot-less” imaging technology (which varies from traditional fine art printing which typically relies on screen pattern dots to reproduce full-range colour halftones). The Giclée process enables reproduction on virtually the same media as the original artwork.
