‘Djubi’ was created using a traditional nib dip pen and ink, along with professional-grade watercolours executed on 300gsm 100% cotton rag watercolour paper. This original artwork includes the ‘Shannon Dwyer Originalembossment and hand-penned signature validating it as an original artwork of Shannon Dwyer.

With such gorgeous eyes and teeny-tiny-fluffy adorableness – Shannon couldn’t go past painting the wide-eyed Australian Sugar Glider!  This darling little mammal has been uniquely depicted in watercolour and intricate ink patterns to add depth and fun to the painting, capturing the delightfully quizzical and ‘jumpy’ nature of this nocturnal beauty!

Among the most acrobatic of Australia’s small mammals are the sugar gliders! This tree-dwelling Australian native marsupial is found in tall eucalypt forests and woodlands along eastern NSW spending much of its time in tree canopies, leaping extraordinary distances with ease – using its long bushy tail for stability and steering when in ‘flight’. I chose the name ‘Djubi’ as its from the Sydney Aboriginal Dharug language translating to ‘sugar glider’. Being most active at night, foraging for sugary foods like sap, sugar gliders are highly social animals living in family groups/colonies consisting of up to seven adults, plus the current season’s young. Despite the loss of natural habitat in Australia over the last 200 years, it is adaptable, although the ability of sugar gliders to forage and avoid predators successfully may be decreased in areas of high ‘light pollution’ (confusing artificial light at night). Conservation status: Least Concern.

Artwork price includes signed artwork with professional framing, a Certificate of Authenticity.
