Before starting an artwork Shannon researches her subject thoroughly to intimately know its habits, movements, personality and colouring to ensure she can capture it all in her artwork. One of the bonuses of this research for her art collectors is that her research is then also combined into a summarised paragraph which becomes part of the Certificate of Authenticity.

Adorable little beauties with such kind, loving faces, that reminded Shannon of a little old married couple. The beautiful, cool colouring and soft feathered textures are a treat for the eyes and something Shannon can never resist.

Pale-headed Rosella fun-facts included on the Certificate of Authenticity: The Pale-headed Rosellas occur naturally along the northeastern and eastern seaboard of Australia. They are mostly absent from the more arid (drier) interior regions. They mostly occur in open, savanna woodland and dry forest dominated by Eucalyptus trees; often along water courses; eating mainly seeds and fruits of grasses, shrubs and trees, as well as flowers, insects and their larvae. However, they have adapted well to human-modified habitats, such as gardens, parks and farmland. They make their nests in the hollows of either dead or living trees, usually eucalypts, or hollow stumps and posts. The very similar Eastern Rosella, is often found with the Pale-headed Rosella where their ranges meet and they are known to breed together creating blended characteristics. Its colouring of an all-white or blue and white cheek patch, with a marked geographical variation, with differences in the depth of colour and the facial patch is still very well-camouflaged when feeding amongst the leaves of the canopy. They are fun-loving, playful birds with a unique talent of being able to turn anything they hear into a whistling song almost instantly, making them famous as companion birds in recent years. Unfortunately though, their numbers may be affected by illegal trapping for the bird trade, especially the blue-cheeked race. Conservation Status: Secure.

‘Float-mounting’ allows the paper to have a bit of ‘freedom’ which watercolour paper often needs as its rarely perfectly ‘flat’.
