With its famous startled stare and wonderfully bewildered expression, this piece leans right into everything we love about the Tawny Frogmouth: the drama, the texture and the slightly “I’ve seen things” facial expression.
This is a one-of-a-kind original Australian bird artwork, hand painted in ink and watercolour and packed with texture, detail and personality. The close-up composition brings you right into the frogmouth’s face, highlighting every feathery tuft, earthy tone and comically shocked eyeball. It’s a unique original wildlife painting, not a print, making it a true collector’s piece for lovers of Australian bird art, Tawny Frogmouth artwork, original watercolour paintings and contemporary Australiana home décor.
To properly show off the fact that this is an original artwork, ‘Yes, No...Maybe?’ is professionally float-mounted, allowing the edges of the painting to remain visible rather than tucked away. That float mount helps celebrate the piece as a genuine hand-painted original, with all its lovely texture and detail on show. It is then professionally framed behind premium non-reflective art glass, reducing glare and letting the colour, brushwork and personality of the original ink and watercolour painting be enjoyed from every angle.
Perfect for collectors of framed original Australian bird art, Tawny Frogmouth paintings, wildlife wall art and unique Australiana artwork, this piece is ready to hang and guaranteed to bring charm, character and a little wide-eyed chaos to your wall.

Float-mounted and framed with Tasmanian Oak under non-reflective art glass.
Art size: 260 x 260mm. Looking like a shocked, electrocuted fuzz-ball, in its juvenile years this remarkable bird has evolved to be the ultimate master of disguise - easily being confused with a tree branch thanks to its oh-so soft, bark-coloured feathers. It’s highly likely most Australians have walked under a tree that a tawny frogmouth was roosting in and have never known it was there! Despite their owl-like appearance, they are more closely related to nightjars – lacking the curved talons characteristic of owls. After sleeping all day, at dusk, they shake their disguise and begin their hunt - utilising their huge, vibrant yellow eyes for nocturnal hunting. The bulk of the Tawny Frogmouth’s diet is made up of nocturnal insects, worms, slugs and snails. Small mammals, reptiles, frogs and birds are also eaten. Most food is obtained by pouncing to the ground from a tree or other elevated perch. They build loose nests of sticks in the forks of tree branches with both parents sharing the responsibility of incubating the eggs and caring for the young. The male often incubates during the day, while both parents are involved during the night. Habitat loss is the most serious threat to the species, whether through land clearing, forestry or intensive bushfires.
